Florence Court, Northern Ireland

Saw another beautiful garden today, courtesy of Florence Court, an 18th Century Irish House, the former home of the Earls of Enniskillen, in west Fermanagh.

The main gardens are a beautiful representation of an 18th Century Garden, with meandering footpaths in and around the trees. Volunteers are currently in the process of restoring one of the lower gardens, which would have housed native fruit trees when the Earls of Enniskillen called the place home. It was a special also treat to visit the still-functional Sawmill as well as the Ice House, where perishable foodstuffs would spend the summer underground stacked amongst last winter’s ice.

The Pastoral scene would not be complete without a small herd of beef cows and sheep, which roam freely around the property. A truly lovely place to have a picnic…which we did!
