As one of the last activities I did with my host family the Baxters’, I went with three of my four host sisters to the Omagh County Folk Park…and it was a great time!
The Folk Park is built on-site amongst actual, 18th century housing. There are original houses, barns, shops and churches that have been restored to reflect how they would have looked in their earliest years. Each house it also decorated and furnished to standard. Scattered amongst the buildings are docents who are dressed also to reflect the time, and who have invaluable information on each family home or shop. We attended the Fourth of July weekend, and I was overwhelmed and overjoyed to see my nation’s flag flying above most every building. Some actors were engaged in mock battles reflecting the Civil War, and folk singers sang good ‘ol country songs. It was truly an honor to be in such a place of living history at such a memorable time of the year.
I also got to hang out with three of my four stunning, hilarious and downright fantastic host sisters. Thank you for making it such a lovely week ladies!
