The Meersburg Castle

I haven’t seen a proper castle since I was in the UK, so it was great to see one here in Germany!

The Meersburg (Die Meersburg) Castle, Germany’s oldest inhabited castle, is a beautiful example of 7th to 18th Century growth in an amazing old building. Different sections of the castle have been updated to reflect medieval life, while others sections, including the home Annette v. Droste-Hulshoff, a famous German writer, exist mostly how she left them.

Though the building itself is incredible, (what you’d imagine a medieval castle to look and feel like, including a “fear hole” and torture chamber), perhaps the most stunning feature is the views from the walls over Lake Constance and into the Swiss Alps. It was truly a beautiful experience.
